Project Snapshot
Westco delivered a cutting-edge metal-building system facility for Chin Coulee Spud Farms: a 150′ × 150′ × 34′ structure engineered to meet the demands of modern agri-operations. This turnkey facility features two mezzanines (120′ × 20′ & 90′ × 30′), dual 5-ton overhead cranes, robust foundation and envelope systems, and high-performance insulation—creating a space built for durability, efficiency and day-to-day operational excellence.
Our Role & Scope
-
Undertook full design-build services: basic design and engineering of the structural steel frame, envelope and mezzanine layouts.
-
Engineered and installed all foundations: including footings, foundation walls, interior slab and apron works.
-
Delivered the building envelope: insulated metal panel (IMP) wall system, a Durolast roof system and high-performance insulation to ensure long-term resiliency in Alberta’s climate.
-
Integrated advanced operational features: 2 overhead cranes (each 5-ton capacity) on rails, optimized mezzanine layouts, and structural framing suited for heavy-duty agricultural processes.
-
Constructed with steel-post & beam structure, cold-form framing, and a heavy-duty mezzanine platform to support storage, workspace and machinery.
Key Building Features
-
-
Size & Structure: ~ 22,500 sq ft, post-and-truss structural steel with steel posts & beams.
-
Foundations: Complete concrete scope – footings, foundation wall systems, interior slab, exterior aprons.
-
Envelope: IMP walls (engineered for interior and exterior use), Duro-Tuff PVC roof membrane, 6″ ISO insulation for thermal performance and weather protection.
-
Openings & Finishes: Man-doors, panoramic picture windows, power-lift door, large overhead doors; exposed structural steel primed for aesthetics and durability.
-
Mezzanines & Cranes: Two mezzanine platforms (120′ × 20′ & 90′ × 30′) combined with rails for twin 5-ton overhead cranes — supporting heavy-duty agricultural workflows.

Why This Project Matters
In today’s evolving agricultural industry, building infrastructure must do more than just “house” equipment. It must support workflow, durability, climate-resilience and operations. At Westco, this project epitomises that forward-thinking approach. By leveraging advanced materials and design, we helped Chin Coulee Spud Farms build a facility that’s built to last, supports heavy operations and remains energy-efficient in Alberta’s challenging climate. This project reaffirms our commitment to delivering full-service construction solutions from concept through completion. Tailored for agricultural clients, industrial users and anyone who values performance and longevity.
