With an impressive career spanning over three decades, Derek co-founded Westco Construction in 1991, starting out as a fencing company. Throughout the years, he has been involved in every facet of the business, gradually climbing the ranks to his present position as President.

Derek’s expertise lies in his extensive knowledge of all aspects of the construction industry. From financial management to building construction and design, he possesses a comprehensive understanding of the business. His diverse skill set includes experience as a welder and journeyman ironworker, which has greatly contributed to his profound understanding of the construction field. Over the years, Derek has cultivated a deep appreciation for the company culture at Westco Construction and cherishes the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional individuals in the industry, having had the pleasure of working with some truly remarkable professionals throughout his career.

Theo Van Ee is a highly experienced and accomplished professional in the construction industry, currently serving as the Principal at Westco Construction. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he co-founded the company in 1991, initially specializing in fencing services. Over the years, Theo’s dedication and hands-on approach have propelled him to his current role as Principal, where he brings his comprehensive expertise in all aspects of building construction and design. From his early days as a welder and journeyman metal system erector to his proficiency in engineering and drafting, Theo’s diverse skill set has been instrumental in the success of Westco Construction.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Theo Van Ee was honored with the prestigious Cranbrook Ford design award in 2012. Throughout his career, he has cultivated a deep appreciation for the company culture at Westco Construction and has had the privilege of collaborating with exceptional individuals. Theo takes great satisfaction in meeting and working with talented professionals, and his commitment to fostering positive working relationships has been a cornerstone of his success. Jason is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in the construction industry. Jason’s journey started as an ironworker, where he honed his skills and craftmanship. His dedication and commitment led to him becoming a certified journeyman ironworker in 2005, a testament to his expertise in the trade. Building on this foundation, Jason transitioned into roles such as site supervisor, project manager, and sales, demonstrating his versatility and ability to adapt to different responsibilities.

With 20 years of experience, Jason has been exposed to a wide range of building types and construction techniques. His extensive knowledge allows him to approach projects from a well-rounded perspective, ensuring efficient and high-quality results. Additionally, he possesses excellent negotiating skills and a passion for team building, creating a cohesive and motivated workforce at Westco.

What Jason appreciates most about Westco is the company’s longstanding presence in his life. Having been with Westco for 20 years, he considers it his home. He takes pride in witnessing the company’s growth and being an integral part of its journey. One of the aspects that truly sets Westco apart, according to Jason, is the exceptional work life balance if offers. Marty joined Westco in August 2007 as an inexperienced laborer and worked his way up the ladder to become Construction Manager. Throughout his career at Westco, Marty has held various positions, including Site Foreman and Site Superintendent, which has given him an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of building construction and design. He is a certified metal building systems erector and insulated metal panel installer, which has equipped him with specialized skills to handle complex building projects.

In 2013, Marty was recognized for his hard work and dedication and awarded the top apprentice in Alberta. He takes pride in his achievements, but he is also passionate about the company culture and mutual respect between employees. He believes in giving equal opportunities to all employees and strives to promote teamwork in the workplace.

Marty’s expertise lies in problem-solving and designing. He enjoys the challenge of finding solutions to complex construction problems and producing creative designs that meet clients’ needs. He is committed to providing top-notch service to all Westco clients and ensuring that all projects are completed within the set timelines and budget.

Colin Prather is the Director of Project Management at Westco, bringing over 39 years of experience in the construction industry. Previously, he spent 12 years at Makloc Construction, where he held roles as a Project Manager and General Manager. His extensive background also includes 4 years as a Construction Foreman at Greenland Nurseries, 7 years at Creative Door Services, excelling in Commercial/Industrial Sales and Project Management, 3 years as Operations Manager at RCR Construction and Management and 9 months as Operations Manager at Cherrywood Homes Master Builder. Colin has completed numerous construction management courses and specialized training in metal building systems design, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and staying at the forefront of industry practices.

With a P.GSC (Professional Gold Seal Certified) designation from the Canadian Construction Association, Colin’s expertise, professionalism, and dedication are recognized in the field. Joining Westco over a year ago, he has found a workplace that values collaboration, professionalism, and a customer-centric approach. Colin appreciates the exceptional team at Westco, where everyone shows up daily, puts in a solid effort, and strives to exceed client expectations. This commitment has resulted in along list of satisfied long-term clients.

Marlin Konynenbelt is a seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience in the construction industry. He currently serves as the Sales Manager at Westco Construction, a role he has held since January 2023. Marlin joined the company in April 2018 and has made significant contributions throughout his tenure. Having worked in various capacities, including Project Manager from April 2018 to March 2020 and Sales Consultant from March 2020 to January 2023, Marlin has developed expertise in all types of commercial, industrial, and agriculture building systems. As a red seal journeyman carpenter, he possesses exceptional skills and can handle everything from underground siteworks to building structures and even bridges.

Brandy Johnson is a highly experienced Office Manager, AP, Payroll, and Benefit Administrator, who has been an invaluable member of Westco Construction for nearly 15 years. Starting as an Administrative Assistant and later transitioning to an
Accounting Assistant, Brandy’s expertise lies in maintaining accounting accuracy and budget tracking while ensuring smooth internal office operations.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in Finance, Brandy combines her academic knowledge with over a decade of completed Payroll Administration courses. Her commitment to staying up to date with industry practices ensures compliance and precision in all payroll-related matters.

In her role as Office Manager, Brandy excels in accounts payable, payroll administration, and benefit coordination. Her meticulous approach to financial management contributes to Westco Construction’s stability and growth. Moreover, Brandy’s exceptional organizational skills and problem-solving abilities enable her to effectively coordinate and support various departments.

With a strong background in community engagement, Taunya brings extensive experience to her role. She is an IAP2 Certified Public Participation Professional, demonstrating her commitment to fostering meaningful connections with the community. Taunya’s interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships allow her to effectively engage with stakeholders and ensure their voices are heard.

In addition to her community engagement expertise, Taunya is also a Prosci Certified Trainer of Change Management. This certification reflects her deep understanding of change management principles and her ability to guide individuals and teams through organizational transformations. With her comprehensive skill set, Taunya is well-equipped to navigate complex communication challenges and drive successful change initiatives within Westco.
